Eravikulam National Park, Munnar

      Eravikulam National Park also known as Rajamala national park, is located 13 km away from Munnar town. This park is administered under Kerala forest and Wildlife department and became national park in 1978. Eravikulam National Park is a 97 km2 national park located along the Western Ghats ,Kerala. Anamudi, the highest peak of south India was located in this park. The view of the valley from here is fabulous and offers a satisfying trip for tourists.
      The region is home to three main types of vegetation: shola woods, shrublands, and grasslands. The grasslands mostly cover the high plateaus and hills that encircle the park, with the shrubland becoming more noticeable around the foot of the cliffs. The valleys between hills and plateaus are home to the Shola forests. The northwest and southwest sections of the park are separated by Turner is Valley, the deepest valley in the area.

Specialties in Eravikulam national park: Rajamala is the tourism zone of Eravikulam National Park and is a place where one can see Nilgiri Tahr at close quarter.The tourism zone will be closed in calving season during Feb – March every year. Visitors can get assured sighting of Nilgiri Tahr, feel the kurinji and experience the shola grassland eco system. Visitors will be picked from 5th Mile on safari buses and dropped back. The park has restaurants, eco shops and an amenity centre.

How to reach at Eravikulam national park
The park is accessible from Kochi (Kerala) and Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) Airports, which are located at about 148 km and 175 km respectively. Munnar, the nearest town (13 km) is well connected by roads from Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The nearest Railway Station in Kerala is Aluwa (120 km) and Coimbatore (160 km) in Tamil Nadu.

What is are the Specialties Of Nilagir Tahr ?
Nilagiri Tahr, (Scientific name; Nilgiritragus hylocrius ). Is one of the few species of Mountian Caprinae and the only Tahr, which is adapted to Cold & Wet tropical Environment.The male Tahr will be bigger and darker than the female one. 

Neelakurinji and Eravikulam National park

About Anamudi -

Anamudi is the highest peak in the Western Ghats and in South India, at an elevation of 2,695 metres (8,842 ft).  It is located in the southern region of Eravikulam National Park at the junction of the Cardamom Hills, the Anaimalai Hills and the Palani Hills.
